Pamela I. Theodotou

Narrative comes in many forms, sometimes it moves and other times it is static, in silence or in full sound. I find it a necessity to use many mediums to express ideas. My primary work is in film and photography as well as the written word but it extends to other 3d forms in sculpture, ceramics and metalwork.

Here you will find information and links on Photography, Books, Films and works in development.

INFRARED: 1996-2002

Captured at the end of the 35 mm film era, INFRARED is a series of images taken over a five year period in Iceland, New Orleans, England, Utah, Michigan and Florida. As a medium where there is a high degree of error due to highly variant factors, infrared was always on the fringes for most photographers. Changing light, deep red filters and focal length guesswork added to the mystery of shooting a roll of this oft experimental film. Mastering takes patience and cooperation of the elements.

CHINA: THE OPEN DOOR 1985

China; The Open Door: 1980 is an unromanticised view of China during its first few years following China's new negotiated policies with the United States that limited Chinese pursuit of Taiwan and limited the US's military presence in the same dialogue/ Along with that cooperation, China famously opened its doors to the world after years of isolation following the Cultural Revolution. These images were captured in three areas of China (South Canton region, Central Region in and around Beijing, and Shanghai, in 1985, during which embedded with a group of American physicians invited to see China and acts as a diplomatic exchange, Pam Theodotou was able to photograph China and her people, as yet untouched by the boom in technology that would soon come and the exposure to western economic culture that would reshape China's most basic fabric; it's People.
